Fitness Training
Equilibrium Physical Therapy is proud to align itself with several of the brightest minds in the fitness training. These determined individuals think outside the box within their profession to emphasize the importance of movement and function before vanity and ego. The irony is that with proper movement and functional ability comes the ability to perform, improve endurance, train at high levels, and thus ultimately achieve unbelievable changes to your body.
Our Trainers
Maureen Martinez, RN, CPT
Maureen is a registered nurse with a Masters degree in health education/health administration. Her initial nursing career began in orthopaedic/rehabilitation nursing at Stanford University. She then went on to teach nursing at Madonna University in Livonia, MI and fourteen years ago, changed direction at the urging of a personal friend and Physical Therapist, to become a Certified Personal Trainer through NASM (National Academy of Sports Medicine).
Over 6 years ago, she became a certified Ki-Hara Resistance Stretcher. She currently works in NYC at Amplitude Vibration Studio, and in Bloomfield Hills, MI. She trains and stretches people who are avid workout enthusiasts, and/or weekend warriors. Her current passion is learning about Vibration Training and Therapy and how it might further enhance the health of individuals.
Chuck Rowland, CPT
While completing his career as vice president for a multinational financial services organization, Chuck was planning his “second act”, a career as fitness professional. In 2002, he became a certified personal trainer (CPT). For three years, he operated on parallel tracks, splitting time between both industries. Satisfied that he’d found his passion in fitness, he abandoned the world of finance in 2005.
In the years since, Chuck spent countless hours training privately and working for a commercial club. In addition to his basic certifications with both the National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM) and the International Sports Sciences Association (ISSA), he has since added NASM’s Corrective Exercise Specialist and Performance Enhancement Specialist certifications to his credentials. Chuck has also completed instructor courses in Ki-Hara Resistance Stretching; TRX Suspension Training; and Kettlebell Training.
Due to his broad fitness interests, experiences and qualifications, Chuck says he’d be uncomfortable if classified as anything other than a fitness professional who facilitates peoples’ performance of daily life activities, their participation in chosen recreational activities, or their achievement of particular fitness goals. Whatever the client objective, he believes that his responsibility is to bring the client to where he/she moves better. He says, “When people move better, they feel better and vice versa. The better they move, the more likely they are to achieve any fitness goal without injury”. That, he feels, is both a bedrock concept and guiding principle.
